High-Quality Pure Gr2 Titanium Plate

Pure Titanium Plates

Pure titanium plates are flat sheets made from commercially pure titanium, which is typically 99% titanium. They are known for being lightweight, strong, and highly resistant to corrosion and are often used in industries like aerospace, medical, and chemical processing. Unlike titanium alloys, pure titanium plates are softer and more formable, but are often preferred for applications where biocompatibility and corrosion resistance are the most critical factors.

Pure titanium sheet processing technology

Hot Forging of Titanium Plates: This forging process is carried out above the metal’s recrystallization temperature. Hot forging allows titanium plates to achieve excellent plasticity and high strength, while also improving their internal microstructure.

Hot Rolled: This process involves rolling the titanium at temperatures above its recrystallization temperature. Hot rolling imparts good toughness and plasticity to the titanium plates. It also significantly reduces their thickness to achieve the desired dimensions.

Cold Rolled: This rolling process is performed at temperatures below the metal’s recrystallization temperature. Cold rolling significantly enhances the strength and hardness of the titanium plates, while also providing superior surface quality and dimensional accuracy.

Annealing: This is a heat treatment process in which the metal is slowly heated to a specific temperature, held for a sufficient period, and then cooled at a suitable rate (usually slow cooling, sometimes controlled cooling). Annealing eliminates residual stresses within the titanium plates, improves their plasticity and toughness, and ensures a more uniform internal structure.

Pickling: This process involves immersing the workpiece in an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid or other acids to remove surface oxides and other films from the metal. Pickling cleans the surface of the titanium plates, removes oxide layers and impurities, and enhances their surface quality and subsequent processing performance.

FAQ

Q: What is the best grade of titanium?

A: This depends on what you need. If you’re looking for strong, pure titanium like the one used in aerospace manufacturing, grade 4 will do the job. But if you’re open to using titanium alloys, titanium from grade 5, which is used in building engine components, provides excellent durability and strength. Which titanium or titanium alloy you choose will depend on its application.

Q: Is grade 5 titanium harder than steel?

A: Yes compared to steel, on average, grade 5 titanium is around 5 times stronger than most steels. This is shown in its high psi number (pound-force per square inch), which can hit scores of around 160,000 psi. This is one of the reasons grade 5 titanium is used so widely in the aerospace industry, where it must endure intense pressure.

Q: Is grade 5 titanium corrosion-resistant?

A: Yes, despite being a titanium alloy, not pure titanium, grade 5 titanium still offers incredible corrosion resistance. Along with its strength and formability, its anti-corrosion properties are one of the reasons it’s so popular, accounting for around half of all titanium sales worldwide.

Q: How are titanium alloys made?

A: Titanium alloys are a mixture of pure titanium and other metals and chemical elements, to give the titanium new physical properties for many applications. The titanium, metals and chemical elements are heated and mixed, before being allowed to cool and harden. This often results in a much stronger and more durable metal than before.
