Grade 4 titanium plate is unalloyed commercially pure (CP) titanium, UNS R50700, regulated under ASTM B265 and AMS 4901. It is the strongest among CP Ti Grades 1–4, strengthened by controlled interstitial oxygen and iron instead of aluminum/vanadium alloy elements.
A self-repairing passive TiO₂ oxide film instantly forms on its surface when exposed to oxygen/water. This dense barrier blocks contact with corrosive media: seawater, chlorides, nitric acid, organic solvents, mild alkaline solutions. It will not rust or pitting like stainless steel in marine environments.
Grade 4: Unalloyed pure Ti, excellent biocompatibility, superior corrosion resistance to saltwater/organic acid, lower fatigue strength than Gr5, easier cold forming & welding. Ideal for medical implants, chemical liners.
Grade 5 (TC4): Alloyed with Al+V, ultra-high tensile strength (~900 MPa), better high-temp & fatigue performance, poorer corrosion resistance in strong reducing acids. Ideal for aerospace structural parts, heavy load mechanical components.

Is Grade 4 plate hard to machine?
- More difficult than Gr2 due to higher strength. Machining tips:
- Low cutting speed, large feed rate, abundant coolant
- Use cemented carbide tools; avoid high-temperature adhesion between cutter and titanium
- Reduce deep cutting depth to prevent workpiece vibration
