Technical Parameters

What is Gr7?

Grade 7 Titanium refers to a α-titanium alloy with titanium-palladium alloy (UNS Number: R52400), maintaining CP Ti's excellent ductility while enhancing corrosion resistance.

Grade 7 titanium plate is the material of choice for engineers seeking the formability of pure titanium with enhanced corrosion resistance in the most challenging acid and chloride-rich environments. Its unique combination of properties makes it a reliable solution for critical industrial applications where downtime and material failure are costly.

What are Advantages?

FeatureTechnical Details
Corrosion ResistanceGr7 is superior to pure titanium (Gr1-Gr4) in harsh environments
Mechanical Properties

-Tensile strength: 370-550 MPa

Yield strength: ≥275 MPa

Elongation: ≥20%

Excellent formability (weldable, machinable)

Biocompatibility & StabilityNon-toxic, bio-inert, and resistant to crevice corrosion

What are Typical Applications in Industry Use?

Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, reaction vessels, pipes, and valves

Marine Engineering: Hull components, propeller shafts, and seawater desalination systems

Medical Devices: Bone implants, dental fixtures, and surgical instruments

Aerospace & Automotive: Secondary structural parts (e.g., fasteners, tubing) where corrosion resistance is critical

Oil & Gas: Downhole tools and offshore platform components.

What are Differences?

GradeAlloy TypeKey Difference from Gr7
Gr1-Gr4Pure TitaniumLower corrosion resistance (no palladium addition)
Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V)α-β TitaniumHigher strength but lower corrosion resistance
Gr9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V)α-β TitaniumBetter weldability but lower corrosion resistance
Gr7Ti-Pd AlloyBest corrosion resistance among commercial grades

FAQ About ASTM B265 Gr7 Ti-Pd Titanium Plate

Tips for product use

01/

What's the difference between sheet and plate under ASTM B265?

  • Sheet / strip: Thickness ≤4.75 mm (0.187 in)
  • Plate: Thickness >4.75 mm (0.187 in), width ≥254 mm (10 in)

Gr7 plate covers hot rolled thick plate and cold rolled medium-thick plate, full dimensional tolerances specified in ASTM B265 tables.

02/

What surface finishes are standard for ASTM B265 Gr7 plate?

  1. Hot rolled pickled (HRPO): Descaled by acid washing, industrial standard for pressure vessels
  2. Sandblasted: Matte uniform surface for chemical equipment
  3. Bright polished: Mirror finish for precision components
  4. Ground fine surface: For tight tolerance machined parts
03/

What is the standard delivery heat treatment state?

A: Fully annealed (600–700 °C) is mandatory for ASTM B265 certified plate unless cold-worked temper is negotiated. Stress relief (450–600 °C) can be added post-fabrication to eliminate machining/welding residual stress.
04/

Gr7 vs Gr2 – Where does Gr7 outperform?

  • Gr2 performs well in oxidizing media (nitric acid, clean seawater) but fails rapidly in reducing acids & hot stagnant brines.
  • Gr7 is specified for: dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, hot chloride brines, gasket crevices, under-deposit corrosion conditions (desalination, chemical reactors). Gr2 cannot reliably serve these environments long-term.
05/

Is Gr7 more expensive than Grade 2 titanium plate?

A: Yes, Pd alloying raises raw material cost. Only specify Gr7 when the process environment contains reducing acids or high crevice corrosion risk; use cheaper Gr2 for clean oxidizing media only.
06/

Any special storage rules for Gr7 titanium plate?

  • Store indoors, dry, away from iron/steel scrap to prevent iron contamination (causes galvanic corrosion spots)
  • Separate from carbon steel with wooden separators during transport
  • Avoid scratching passive surface film; pickling or light grinding repairs minor surface damage.
