Grade 5 titanium, also designated Ti-6Al-4V, is the most widely used alpha-beta titanium alloy. Its nominal composition is 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, and balance titanium with trace impurities. This alloy delivers an excellent combination of high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance and fabricability, making it the industry standard for high-performance precision components.
Grade 5 titanium plate is flat rolled semi-finished sheet/plate material widely used to machine high-strength precision components. It is the most popular titanium alloy worldwide.
It applys to aerospace structural parts, medical device components, optical instrument parts, sensor housings, fluid control valve bodies, automotive racing precision parts, robot structural components, marine precision fittings.

Difference between Grade 5 and Grade 23 Ti-6Al-4V ELI?
- Grade 5: Standard interstitial content, general engineering, aerospace, machinery precision parts
- Grade 23 ELI: Extra low oxygen, nitrogen, carbon; optimized ductility and fracture toughness, primary for medical implant components
Why select Grade 5 titanium plate for precision components instead of pure titanium (Grade 2)?
- Much higher tensile and yield strength, suitable for load-bearing precision parts;
- Superior fatigue performance for dynamic service conditions;
- Pure Grade 2 titanium offers better formability but lower mechanical strength;
- Grade 5 is preferred when structural strength and lightweight are core requirements for precision assemblies.
Can Grade 5 titanium plate be welded after precision machining?
Yes. Ti-6Al-4V has good weldability. TIG welding is preferred. Note: Weld zones will experience strength drop; design and process should be adjusted if high mechanical loading applies.
What tolerances can you offer for precision Grade 5 titanium plate?
We can supply plates compliant with ASTM B265 standard tolerance. Ultra-tight dimensional tolerances, flatness and parallelism can be customized for high-precision blank requirements.
How to store Grade 5 titanium plates to avoid surface defects before processing?
Keep dry storage; avoid long-term direct contact with steel to prevent iron contamination. Cover plates to prevent scratches. Handle with non-ferrous fixtures.
