ASTM F67 is the official ASTM standard for unalloyed commercially pure (CP) titanium for surgical implant applications.
Gr3 titanium bar offers a unique balance of strength,formability,and corrosion resistance between Gr2 and Gr4.Its intermediate properties make it ideal for applications requiring higher mechanical performance than Gr2 without compromising the inherent benefits of pure titanium.It has higher tensile and yield strength than Gr1 and Gr2(minimum tensile strength:450MPA)

fAQ About ASTM F67 Pure Gr3 Titanium Bar
- Gr2: Best ductility, slightly lower strength, excellent corrosion resistance
- Gr3: Slightly lower corrosion resistance than Gr2, higher strength
Gr4: Highest strength among pure Ti, highest oxygen, slightly reduced ductility
All three grades maintain passive TiO₂ film for long-term implant service.
- Ultrasonic testing (UT): detect internal voids, cracks, segregation
Eddy current testing (ET): surface flaw inspection for small-diameter bars
Macro/microstructure etch inspection to eliminate segregation and alpha case.
Gr3 CP Ti: unalloyed, no aluminum/vanadium, softer, better tissue compatibility, lower fatigue limit.
- Ti-6Al-4V ELI: alloyed, much higher strength, for heavy load-bearing implants (femoral stems)
If biocompatibility priority outweighs maximum strength, select Gr3 per ASTM F67.
