Products Introduction

Grade 5 is the most widely used α+β titanium alloy, chemical mark Ti-6Al-4V. Industrial Gr5 bars refer to wrought solid bar stock for machinery, aerospace, marine, chemical and automotive sectors, complying with ASTM B348 industrial standard.

Industry Grade Titanium Gr5 Bar, full alloy designation Ti-6Al-4V, UNS R56400, Chinese standard TC4, the most widely used α+β duplex titanium alloy globally occupies over 50% of total titanium alloy consumption.

Before shipment, we must conduct a full set of mandatory inspections for Gr5 titanium bars, including full-spectrum chemical composition analysis, mechanical property tests covering tensile, hardness and impact resistance, ultrasonic testing to detect internal cracks and segregation, as well as checks on dimensional tolerances and surface roughness. Strict control of interstitial elements such as oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen is required to ensure material ductility, and each batch shall be traceable with complete Material Test Certificates (MTC).

FAQ About Industry Grade Titanium Gr5 Bars

Tips for product use

01/

Why is Gr5 called high specific strength alloy?

Its tensile strength matches medium-strength alloy steel, while density is only~4.43 g/cm³, 45% lighter than steel. Ideal for moving/rotating parts needing lightweight + load-bearing capacity (aircraft frames, racing shafts, offshore drill components).

02/

What's the difference between Industrial Gr5 & Medical Gr23 (ELI)?

· Industrial Gr5: Max O ≤0.20%, higher tensile strength, lower cost, for non-implant industrial/aero/marine parts.

· Gr23 ELI (Medical Ti-6Al-4V): Max O ≤0.13%, ultra-low interstitial elements, better toughness, only for permanent human implants, not general industry use.

03/

What surface finishes can industrial Gr5 bars supply?

1. Hot rolled / forged black skin: Low cost, rough surface, for rough forging blanks

2. Cold drawn ground surface: Uniform matte industrial finish, general machining stock

3. Bright polished: Mirror surface, for precision shafts, instrument parts

4. Shot blasted: Uniform matte, remove surface stress before heat treatment

04/

Is Gr5 titanium bar hard to machine? What tools to use?

A: Gr5 has low thermal conductivity, chips hold heat easily, causing tool wear. Machining tips:

· Tools: Coated carbide inserts; low cutting speed, large coolant flow

· Avoid dry high-speed cutting to prevent surface oxidation & microcracks

· Better machinability than pure titanium Gr1/Gr2, widely used for mass CNC components

05/

Can industrial Gr5 bars be welded?

A: Yes, excellent weldability with GTAW/TIG. Must use pure argon shielding to prevent oxygen/nitrogen contamination during welding; post-weld stress relief annealing recommended for heavy-load components.

06/

How to store Gr5 titanium bars to avoid surface damage?

· Store indoors, away from humid salt fog & acid vapor

· Separate from carbon steel to prevent iron contamination & galvanic corrosion

· Wrap polished bars with plastic film; bundle hot-rolled stock with waterproof kraft paper
