PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION
Introduction
Grade 5 titanium (UNS R56400) is an alpha-beta (α+β) wrought titanium alloy, the universal material for civil and military aircraft.
Titanium Grade 5 is an alloy composed of 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, and balance titanium, the most widely used aerospace titanium alloy.
Titanium Grade 5 bars are solid round/square/rectangular extruded or forged titanium semi-finished bars, the primary raw material for aircraft structural parts, fasteners and landing gear components.

~425°C (800°F) |
Stable strength at jet engine intermediate temperatures |
|
Fatigue strength |
~510 MPa (10⁷ cycles) |
Resists repeated flight vibration & cyclic loading |
|
Corrosion resistance |
Excellent to salt spray, moisture, aviation fluids |
No rust on coastal & high-humidity aircraft fleets |
Core aerospace advantages:
High strength-to-weight ratio: 40% lighter than alloy steel with equivalent tensile strength, greatly reducing aircraft empty weight and fuel consumption.
Excellent corrosion resistance: Resists atmospheric, salt spray and aviation fluid (hydraulic oil, fuel) corrosion, no rust at high altitude.
Good high-temperature performance: Stable mechanical properties under 400°C, suitable for engine adjacent structures.
Superior fatigue & fracture toughness: Resists repeated vibration loads during flight, avoids sudden structural failure.
Compatible with forming, forging, CNC machining and welding for complex aircraft parts.

Tips for Maintenance and Storage
- Store indoors, keep away from outdoors.
- Separate from steel, copper to avoid galvanic corrosion.
- Wrap with film; stock on wood/plastic racks.
- Use rubber tools to prevent surface damage.
- Mark only with aerospace ink, no metal scribers.

- Stack properly to avoid bending.
- Keep storage area clean of grease, salt and chemicals.
- Clean finished bars with certified solvent.
- Regularly check for discoloration and pits.
- Coat machined bars with aerospace anti-rust oil for long storage.
FAQ About Titanium Grade 5 Bars for Aircraft
1. What key aircraft parts use Grade 5 titanium bars?
Airframe structural parts: fuselage brackets, wing connecting joints, rib supports
Landing gear components: small load-bearing shafts, pin shafts, connecting rods
Aero-engine auxiliary parts: compressor small shafts, valve stems, fastener blanks
Aviation fasteners: titanium bolts, nuts, rivets (rolled Grade 5 bar as raw material)
Hydraulic & pneumatic system shaft parts, actuator rods
2. What surface & dimensional requirements for aircraft titanium bars?
- Surface: No cracks, peeling, inclusions, oxidation scale, scratches; pickled or ground finish for aerospace machining blanks.
- Tolerance: Tight dimensional tolerance (h9/h11) for precision bar stock; straightness controlled within 1mm/m to avoid bending during CNC processing.
- Defect inspection: 100% ultrasonic testing (UT) + eddy current testing (ET) to eliminate internal voids and surface microcracks, mandatory for aviation applications.
