Introduction

 

Gr9 titanium seamless pipes ,also known as Ti-3Al-2.5V or TA18 in Chinese standards are a near-α titanium alloy with excellent cold formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance.

 

Gr9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is an alpha-beta titanium alloy with 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium. It is a seamless tube made via hot extrusion or cold rolling, featuring a balance of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance. It sits between commercially pure titanium (Gr1-4) and high-strength Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V) in performance.

Manufacturing Process

 

1. Melting: Vacuum arc remelting (VAR) or electron beam melting (EBM) for high purity

2. Forging: Break down ingot into billets

3. Piercing: Create hollow shell from billet (mandrel mill or plug mill process)

4. Rolling: Reduce OD/WT to desired dimensions (cold rolling for thin walls)

5. Annealing: Heat treat to achieve specified mechanical properties

6. Finishing: Cut to length, surface treatment, NDT inspection

7. Testing: Hydrostatic, ultrasonic, eddy current, and visual inspection

Primary: GTAW  with pure argon shielding.
