Small-diameter Grade 5 Titanium Round Bars (Ti-6Al-4V, TC4) are the most popular high-strength titanium alloy solid rods, manufactured via cold drawing, centerless grinding and precision rolling for tiny dimension ranges.

 

Widely processed into miniature shafts, fasteners, medical hardware, aerospace pins, 3C precision components. Custom lengths, surface finishes and cutting services are supported. Full material test certificates can be provided.

FAQ About Small-Diameter Grade 5 Titanium Round Bars

 

1.Can small-diameter Grade 5 titanium bars be welded?

Yes. GTAW/TIG welding with pure argon shielding is preferred. Full shielding on welding seam and heat-affected zone is required to avoid oxygen contamination and embrittlement. Thin small rods are susceptible to overheating and deformation.

2. Can Grade 5 titanium round bars be bent or cold formed?

Limited ductility at room temperature. Severe cold bending is not recommended. If forming is necessary, perform warm forming within 650°C–800°C. For heavy forming requirements, Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is a better alternative.

3. What non-destructive testing services can be provided?

• Eddy Current Testing (ET): Detect surface cracks

• Ultrasonic Testing (UT): Inspect internal inclusions (normally applicable for bars ≥ Ø4 mm)

• Physical tensile test, hardness test, chemical composition analysis Mill Test Certificate (MTC 3.1 or 3.2) is available upon request.

4. What are differences between Grade 5 and Grade 2 pure titanium bar?

• Grade 5 Alloy: High strength, lower ductility, poor cold forming performance

• Grade 2 Commercially Pure Titanium: Outstanding corrosion resistance, easy forming, lower mechanical strength Select Grade 5 if high strength-to-weight ratio is prioritized; choose Grade 2 for heavy corrosion environments without high load requirements.

5. What are the recommendations for storage and transportation?

• Maintain clean surfaces and avoid iron contamination which may trigger galvanic corrosion

• Store separately from carbon steel

• Prevent scratches on bright and ground surfaces

• Use sealed packaging for long-distance ocean transportation
