Production Description
Titanium Weld Neck Flange refers to WN flange and it is a high-integrity pipe connection component. It is designed for butt-welding to a pipe. Its excellent features, such as its long, tapered hub (neck), and it has smoothly transitions from the flange to the pipe wall. The neck transfers stress away from the weld joint, so it is ideal for high pressure/temp/cyclic loads. It is popularly applied in high-pressure, high-temperature, and critical service applications.
The Weld Neck Flange is the good choice for critical piping systems because of its robust design, which ensures maximum strength and sealing integrity under the harshest industrial conditions.
Core Structure & Features
- It has a Long Tapered Hub and it spreads stress evenly, reduces stress concentration at the weld, and reinforces the joint.
- It is a good Butt-Weld Connection and it requires a full-penetration weld, creating a seamless, high-strength bond between the flange and pipe.
- It has Smooth Bore. The inner diameter matches the pipe's ID, minimizing flow turbulence and erosion.
- The weld joint is far from the sealing face, protecting it from heat distortion during welding.
Common Types Of Titanium flanges
- Weld Neck (WN): For high pressure/temperature, best fatigue resistance.
- Slip-On (SO): Easy to install, for low-to-medium pressure.
- Blind: For sealing pipe ends.
- Threaded: For small diameters, non-weld assembly.
- Socket Weld : For small-bore, high-purity systems.
- Lap Joint: For easy alignment, paired with stub ends.

Applications
- It is used in upstream pipelines, refineries, offshore platforms in oil & gas field;
- It usually used in boiler, steam, and feedwater lines in power generation;
- It is applied in High-pressure reactors, heat exchangers in petrochemical;
- It also can be used in transport of hazardous, toxic, or flammable fluids in chemical.

How to select?

Medium & temp:
Corrosion → Gr 2; high temp/pressure → Gr 5; severe crevice → Gr.7/12.
Pressure class: Match system rating.
Size & schedule: Match pipe OD & wall thickness.
Face type: RF (general); RTJ (high pressure/Class ≥600).
Standards: ASME B16.5, ASTM B381.

FAQ About Titanium Weld Neck Flange
What industries use them?
+
-
- Offshore/Marine: Seawater, desalination.
- Chemical/Petrochemical: Acids, chlorides, corrosive process fluids.
- Power: Nuclear, thermal.
- Pulp & Paper: Bleaching circuits.
- Aerospace: High-performance hydraulic/propellant lines.
How to inspect & quality check?
+
-
- PMI: Verify grade (Gr.2/5).
- Dimensional: Check neck taper, bore, face runout per ASME B16.5.
- Surface: Ra 3.2–6.3μm (RF); no scratches/pits.
- NDT: Ultrasonic (forgings) + RT/UT (welds).
- Material certs: ASTM B381, heat test reports.
Key maintenance tips?
+
-
- Inspect: crevice corrosion, loose bolts, seal damage.
- Clean: Use fresh water; avoid steel brushes.
- Retorque: Follow bolt retorque schedules.
- Avoid: Impact, scratch, or iron contact.
Why choose weld neck over other flanges?
+
-
- Strongest joint: Butt-weld → full penetration, highest integrity.
- Stress distribution: Tapered neck reduces fatigue/cracking.
- Best for critical: High pressure, temp, cyclic loads, corrosive media.
- Leak resistance: Superior to slip-on/threaded.
