How corrosion-resistant is Gr5?
- Excellent, due to a self-healing TiO₂ oxide layer that reforms when scratched.
- Resists seawater, chlorides, dilute acids, alkalis, and industrial pollutants.
- Not suitable for hot concentrated acids or fluoride-containing environments.
Can Gr5 titanium sheet be bent or formed?
- Yes, but less formable than Gr1/Gr2 due to higher strength.
- Bending tips: Use large bend radii , avoid cold bending thick sheets (>6mm), and apply local heating to reduce cracking risk.
- Machining: Vacuum-annealed grade minimizes springback; use sharp tools with low speed/high feed.
What are common defects and storage tips?
- Common defects: Surface scratches, oxidation discoloration, edge cracks, and internal inclusions.
- Storage: Keep dry/ventilated, avoid contact with acids/alkalis, prevent collision/scratches, and cover with moisture-proof film for long-term storage.
