Gr7 titanium is palladium-enhanced variant of the commercially pure titanium grade 2.IIt is classified as an alpha alloy and is renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance,particularly in reducing acid environments and crevice corrosion conditions where other titanium grades might fail.The small addition of palladium(0.12%-0.25%)significantly boosts the alloy's performance, making it a premium material for the most demanding industrial applications.

Gr7 titanium wire (UNS R52400, TA9) is a commercially pure titanium alloy with 0.12–0.25% palladium (Pd) added to drastically improve corrosion resistance, especially in reducing acids and chloride-rich environments. Gr7 titanium wire mainly refers to round products with a diameter of less than 6 mm, manufactured from Grade 7 material (Ti-0.25Pd) per ASTM B863.

How is Gr7 different from Gr2?

Gr7 has superior corrosion resistance than Gr2 (pure titanium), especially in reducing acids (e.g., HCl, H₂SO₄) and high-temperature chloride solutions. Pd addition accelerates the repair of the passive oxide film, preventing pitting and crevice corrosion. Gr2 is for mild corrosion; Gr7 is for severe, critical environments.

Is Gr7 weldable?

Yes, Gr7 has excellent weldability (similar to pure titanium).
Use GTAW (TIG) with pure titanium filler metal (Gr7 or Gr2).
Avoid contamination (oxygen/nitrogen) to maintain corrosion resistance.

How to store and handle Gr7 wire?

Store in dry, clean, indoor areas (avoid moisture/salt spray)
Keep away from steel, copper, or other heavy metals to prevent galvanic corrosion
Use non-contaminating tools/gloves (no iron particles)
