Description
Grade 2 is the most popular CP titanium, with minimal interstitial elements. It offers balanced strength, ductility, weldability, and outstanding corrosion resistance. It is far superior to stainless steel in seawater, chlorides, and many chemicals.
It is made by forming Grade 2 titanium strip and coil into a tube and welding longitudinally, typically via GTAW (TIG) welding.

Manufacturing Process
- Slit annealed Grade 2 titanium coil/strip
- Cold forming into a tubular shape
- Automatic GTAW (TIG) welding with internal+external inert gas shielding to prevent oxidation embrittlement; no preheat/post-weld heat treatment needed
- On-line annealing, sizing, straightening
- 100% eddy current test, ultrasonic test, hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure test, visual inspection, dimensional check
Quality Control & Inspection
- Non-destructive testing (NDT): 100% eddy current, ultrasonic testing, hydrotest
- Chemical composition analysis, mechanical testing
- Surface finish: Pickled, bright annealed, or as-welded.
- The third-party testing is available upon your request.

Handling & Fabrication Tips
- Strict cleaning before welding; use dedicated tools to avoid cross-contamination
- Weld in an inert atmosphere
- Avoid exposure to temperatures above 540°C in air to prevent alpha case formation
- Use slow feed, sharp tools, and abundant coolant for machining

Is the weld reliable?
Yes. With proper inert gas shielding and process control, the weld zone matches the base metal in corrosion resistance and mechanical performance.
Can it be bent / fabricated?
Yes. Grade 2 has good ductility. It can be bent, flared, and machined with proper tools and coolant.
Is Grade 2 heat treatable?
No. It is not hardenable by heat treatment; only annealed to improve ductility.
