Products Introduction
Grade 5 Titanium, also marked Ti-6Al-4V / TC4 / UNS R56400, is the most popular alpha-beta titanium alloy globally, making up over 50% of total titanium industrial consumption. It is the primary raw material for CNC machined titanium structural parts.
There are two types of titanium plates for CNC Machining Parts.Hot-forged plate has good grain flow for heavy-load structural parts, needs extra stress relief grinding. Cold-rolled plate has tighter flatness & surface roughness (Ra ≤3.2μm), ideal for precision sealing components, with minor residual stress to eliminate before machining.
Core Advantages of Grade 5 Titanium Plates
Mechanical Performance
Ultra-high strength-to-weight ratio: Equal tensile strength to steel, 40% lighter density (~4.43 g/cm³)
Outstanding fatigue & fracture resistance, stable mechanical property up to 400℃ high temperature
Non-magnetic, low elastic modulus, good toughness and impact resistance
Chemical & Functional Merits
Natural passive TiO₂ film brings universal corrosion resistance against seawater, acid, alkali and humid marine environments
Biocompatible: Safe for human body contact; medical long-term load-bearing implants adopt upgraded Grade 23 ELI based on Grade 5 matrix
Excellent weldability and heat treatability

Professional CNC Machining Solutions for Grade 5 Plates
1.Tool Selection
Preferred: PVD coated solid carbide end mills / inserts; avoid uncoated high-speed steel tools
Tool geometry: Large rake angle, sharp cutting edge, optimized chip breaker to reduce cutting friction
2.Cutting Parameters Rule
Low spindle speed: 30–60 m/min cutting speed
Stable medium feed rate: Prevent excessive work hardening from slow scraping
Abundant high-pressure synthetic ester coolant / MQL minimal quantity lubrication to evacuate cutting heat instantly
3.Plate Pre-Machining Treatment
Stress relief annealing for thick cold-rolled plates to eliminate blank warpage
Rough machining first, then finish machining after cooling to release cutting residual stress
Thin titanium plates need vacuum fixture or custom support jigs to avoid vibration & deformation
4.Post-Machining Surface Finishes
Available processes for CNC-machined Grade 5 titanium parts: Sandblasting, mechanical grinding, mirror polishing, chemical etching, anodizing (color oxide film), passivation for anti-corrosion upgradeChalco Tit...

FAQ about Grade 5 Titanium Plates for CNC Machining Parts
What is the difference between Grade 5 standard and Grade 5 ELI titanium plates for CNC?
+
-
Standard Grade 5: General industrial use, higher oxygen content, higher strength, lower ductility. For aerospace, machinery structural parts.
Grade 5 ELI : Strictly controlled oxygen & iron impurities, superior toughness and biocompatibility. Exclusively for CNC medical implant parts.
Does Grade 5 titanium plate need stress relief before CNC machining?
+
-
Thick plates (>10mm) or thin ultra-flat blanks are recommended to conduct stress relief annealing before machining. It eliminates rolling internal stress and prevents workpiece deformation after CNC cutting. Thin plates below 3mm can skip this process for low-precision parts.
Can Grade 5 titanium plates be welded after CNC machining?
+
-
Yes. It supports TIG welding, laser welding and electron beam welding for assembled CNC parts. Welding must be carried out under inert gas shielding to avoid oxidation embrittlement.
How to store Grade 5 titanium plate blanks before CNC processing?
+
-
Keep dry warehouse environment to avoid long-term contact with salt water and acid mist.
Separate from carbon steel to prevent iron contamination (surface iron spots cause corrosion).
Wrap pickled/polished plates with protective plastic film to avoid scratches during handling.
