Technical Parameters
Products Description
Grade 2 (ASTM B265 GR2) is commercially pure titanium (CP Ti), with titanium content ≥99.2%. Its main impurity limits: max 0.30% Fe, max 0.25% O, low hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon. It is the most widely used unalloyed titanium grade.
GR1 has lower oxygen & iron content, softer, higher ductility but lower tensile strength. GR2 has slightly higher oxygen content, better strength balance, more cost-effective for general structural & corrosion-resistant applications.

Manufacturing Process of Grade 2 Pure Titanium Plates
Sponge Production
process to make pure titanium sponge, control impurities for Grade 2.
VAR Ingot Melting
Press sponge into electrodes, double vacuum arc remelting to cast uniform titanium ingots, chemical composition inspection.
Forging into Slabs
Heat ingots, cogging forge into rectangular slabs; grind off surface oxide layers.
Hot Rolling
Reheat slabs, multi-pass hot rolling into rough plates. Shot blast & acid pickling to remove oxide scale, level flatness.
- Thick plates (20–100mm): finished after hot rolling
- Thin/medium plates: proceed to cold rolling
Cold Rolling (Thin Sheets Only)
Multi-pass cold reduction for precise thickness; vacuum intermediate annealing to relieve work hardening between passes.
Pickling
Hot scale removal, chemical pickling using HF and HNO₃ mixed acid, multi-stage water rinsing, alkali neutralization and hot air drying.
Final Vacuum Annealing
620–680℃ vacuum heat treatment to remove residual stress, stabilize mechanical properties, avoid oxygen pollution.
Finishing Treatment
Level, trim edges, cut to custom sizes; optional sandblasting, polishing, passivation for different surface finishes.
Full Quality Inspection
Chemical analysis, tensile/hardness test, ultrasonic flaw detection, dimension & surface check, issue test certificates.
Packaging
Cover with protective film, pack on moisture-proof wooden pallets for shipment.

FAQ about Grade 2 Pure Titanium Plates

Common Problem
What is the service life of GR2 titanium in seawater?
Over 20 years without anti-corrosion coating; no rust or perforation under continuous seawater immersion.
data been dummy tndustry dard righteous
When should I choose Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) instead of Grade 2?
- Pick GR5 if you need much higher tensile strength for load-bearing structural parts.
- Choose GR2 if priority is corrosion resistance, formability, low weight and lower cost.
Why is Grade 2 titanium more expensive than 304 stainless steel?
High raw material cost of titanium ore, complex smelting & rolling processes, strict vacuum processing requirements. But its ultra-long service life in corrosive media lowers overall replacement cost for long-term projects.
What industries use Grade 2 titanium plates most?
- Marine industry: seawater desalination heat exchangers, ship piping, offshore equipment
- Chemical processing: reaction vessels, heat exchangers, acid & chloride storage tanks
- Medical devices: surgical implant substrates, medical instrument shells, dental equipment
- Medical devices: surgical implant substrates, medical instrument shells, dental equipment
- Aerospace: non-load-bearing structural parts, fluid pipeline liners
- Architecture & electroplating: decorative panels, plating anode plates
- Food & pharmaceutical equipment: corrosion-resistant production liners
