The application of titanium alloys in power equipment is gradually emerging, It reflects the industry's motions toward high-performance, durable, and environmentally friendly solutions.

I. The Key Application Scenarios

1. Nuclear Power Equipment

  • Nuclear reactor cooling pipes, condenser heat exchange tubes, control rod drive mechanism housings
  • Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Ti-32Mo, Ti-6-2-4-2
  • Corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance (300-500℃), high strength, and lightweight.
  • Meet nuclear-grade material certification (ASME Section III);control hydrogen content during welding; no surface defects (ultrasonic testing)

2. Gas Turbines

  • Compressor blades/impellers, combustion chamber liners, exhaust system components
  • Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4Cr (Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al)
  • High-temperature oxidation resistance (500-600℃), fatigue resistance, lightweight (reduces rotational inertia)
  • Solution aging treatment required; surface coating (Al-Si coating) to enhance oxidation resistance; strict grain size control (≤50μm)

3. Wind Turbine Generators

  • Nacelle frame structural parts, hub connection flanges, offshore wind turbine tower fasteners
  • Gr23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI), Ti-6Al-7Nb
  • Marine corrosion resistance, high strength (30%+ weight reduction compared to steel), fatigue resistance
  • Need cathodic protection for offshore applications (paired with sacrificial anodes); fasteners must meet preload requirements (≥1000MPa); low-temperature toughness (-40℃ impact energy ≥20J)

4. High-Voltage Power Transmission Equipment

  • Surge arrester housings, insulator mandrels (high-voltage direct current), power transmission line fittings
  • Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Ti-Ni shape memory alloy
  • Insulation compatibility (does not affect electric field distribution), atmospheric corrosion resistance (acid rain/industrial dust), impact resistance
  • Insulation coating on the surface (epoxy resin); high dimensional accuracy; matching thermal expansion coefficient with insulating materials (10-11/℃)

5. Energy Storage Equipment

  • Flow battery electrode frames, energy storage container structural parts (outdoor use), electrolyte delivery pipes
  • Ti-3Al-2.5V, Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V)
  • Electrolyte corrosion resistance, lightweight, good sealing performance
  • Compatibility with electrode materials (carbon cloth) (no chemical reactions); no pores allowed in pipe welding; temperature resistance range.

II.The Benefits for Using Titanium and TItanium Alloys

  • Nuclear Power Sector: The cooling system,third-generation nuclear power plants ( AP1000),requires titanium alloys. Its corrosion resistance can extend the service life of pipes from 15 years to over 30 years, reducing operation and maintenance costs by more than 40%.

  • Offshore Wind Power: Titanium alloy fasteners and structural parts can solve the problem of steel corrosion, reduce replacement frequency, and lower the total life-cycle cost of projects by 25%-30%. It is the preferred material for high-end overseas wind power projects.

  • New Energy Transition: With the global advancement of "carbon neutrality", the application growth rate of titanium alloys in wind power, energy storage, and photovoltaic supporting equipment reaches 15%+ annually.
